About Me
Me Professionally
Professionally, I am an Instructional Designer who focuses on the everyday experiences that help people learn and grow. For more than 15 years, I led an international Resilience Education Program for the U.S. Special Forces community. I had the extraordinary opportunity to work with hundreds of resilience experts in fields such as communication; nutrition; psychological, physical, and financial health; relationships, and parenting. In my role, I provided coaching and developed workshops, presentations and materials to improve the health and wellbeing of service members and their families. Not only did this work help thousands of people over the years, but the skills and insights changed me and my family for the better. At the conclusion of this work, I wanted to share it with others, so I became a certified Integrative Health Coach through Duke University and work with the Heroic Coaching Program which blends the best of Stoicism and current science on optimizing our lives. With all of these experiences, I want to empower people to prioritize their health everyday in order live their best life on purpose.
Me Personally
The sign in my living room pretty much describes who I am and how I purpose to live life – some days I’m more successful than others! God, Grace, Gratitude and Grit As a widow, I’ve been given the gift of raising three amazing teenage boys on my own. We live on a beautiful island in the Pacific Northwest with our two dogs and two cats. In between work, school, and sports activities, I enjoy being out in the woods, puttering around in my garden, an evening with friends, and occasionally doing a creative house project.

What is Everyday Learners?
We never know what’s coming next – a celebration, challenge or maybe just more of what seems to be the same. Our job, as humans, is to show up in our lives as the best version of ourselves every day. And to keep pressing on regardless of our circumstances.
Everyday Learners coaching, consulting, and workshops challenge you to do this well by providing you with the right tools, skills and encouragement you can keep moving forward.
Who Can Benefit?
The good news is anyone can be an “everyday learner”! And there are times when we all need more support than others.

Want to wake up everyday and feel like you’re flourishing in your life?
Going through one of many big life transitions?
Experiencing an unexpected (or maybe anticipated) health shock?

Best Version of Me
Life is precious. Most of us would say our desire is to show up well for ourselves and the people we care about. If you look back on the last year, or five years, how did you do? Were you at your best? Excellent! Or is there room for improvement? This work is about discovering who you are at your best and then intentionally showing up as that best version of yourself – regardless of the circumstances. What does that even look like? How do we do it….moment to moment to moment?
Learn from the very best philosophers and scientists with skills and strategies you can start practicing immediately in your life.
My New Now
Transitions are part of everyone’s life. Some we choose (taking on a promotion, having children, moving) and some get handed to us unexpectedly (illness or injury, end of a relationship, loss of a job, death of a loved one).
Regardless of what triggered the new path you find yourself on, navigating transitions is often challenging. Having tools and support can help keep you grounded during change, see possibilities instead of problems, and turn a transition into a transformation that you couldn’t have even imagined.
Depletion to Discovery
Sometimes we feel so depleted, or in so much turmoil, we’re not ready to think about being the best versions of ourselves. We need to take a breath, see through the fog and find some solid footing so we can simply take one step forward and then another.
With guided support and practical tools learn strategies for gaining perspective, building strength and getting clarity on who and where you are in your current reality. Focus on what you need to start doing AND stop doing. Implement daily skills to build energy and increase positive momentum so that you can become the creator of your future.
Don't Forget the zest
Zest is about having genuine enthusiasm for life – excitement and energy for yourself, the people you care about, and the activities you do.
How often do we forget or put aside the priorities, relationships, and activities in our lives simply because they’re fun, make us smile or laugh, and give us life energy? Even when it is this positive energy that can sustain us and give us momentum we can then invest in other areas of our lives. This work explores the virtue of zest and what it looks like or can look like for us in the small moments and big adventures everyday.
Antifragility - Building Emotional Stamina
Stress – everyone experiences it. Learn how to strengthen your endurance, adjust your perspective, and build your arsenal of tools in order to manage the challenges and adversity that create stress.
This work will help you identify the elements of your life that often result in an increased stress response and instead teach you to use these circumstances as positive fuel that can propel you forward instead overwhelm you.

Everyday Learning
Walks And Thoughts
I was first introduced to the concept of EVERYDAY LEARNING through the work of Jean Lave in 1996 while completing my Ph.D. Ms. Lave - an anthropologist and learning theorist - believes learning is a social activity that happens through our life experiences and relationships in everyday life. It is something we do, not necessarily something we are specifically taught. Her work (and her book Situated Learning: Legitimate Peripheral Participation) have forever had an impact on how I think about learning and how I engage with people as a coach and instructional designer.
With that in mind, as an "everyday learner" I try to do two things consistently.
1. Take my dogs on a walk through the woods or on the beach to focus on gratitude. And
2. Purpose to notice or discover something new - something that makes me pause and say "oh, that's interesting".
At this point in life, I'm not very disciplined about capturing these thoughts through traditional journal writing or blog posts. Instead, I'll often take a photo and add a caption, or send off a random (and often too lengthy) text to one of my very good friends who has since nicknamed me "the narrator" in order to document whatever I've found noteworthy. This section of the website is my effort at being more organized and disciplined - sharing the joy of my walks and some of my personal notes and discoveries.
Stay tuned for more!
